7 Card Stud Hi/Lo Tip One – Bluffing Bluffing in all poker games is a top strategy move. Though 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo is no different, bluffing in this game can be extremely difficult. 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo is a high action game with many hand combinations that can change on one card. It is hard to convince a player to fold no matter how aggressive you can be. Good players will always recognize what kind a hand you and everyone else has and will play accordingly. Recognize this and though don't eliminate bluffs from your game, realize that the probability of them working is a lot lower. 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo Tip Two – Here to Scoop Like every hi/lo poker variation the main goal is to scoop the pot. To some this is an obvious point but others may be under the illusion that winning half a pot twice equates to winning one whole pot. This is not the case. Winning half a pot usually puts you just barely ahead. So if you cannot scoop the whole pot fold? NO, but if you think there is a possibility your hand may not win half the pot, it would be more profitable to fold those hands and wait for a better chance. 7 Card Stud Tip Three – Observation There is a lot of information being laid on the table each round in 7 card stud hi/lo. Your first responsibility to yourself is to notice what cards are turned up first so you can remember the ones folded on the first round of betting. As your hand progresses, pay attention to the “dead” cards (face up) in everyone’s hands and make sure the card you are looking for isn’t one of those. The odds of you hitting the flush could be longer than you thought if a lot of the suit you need is showing. Paying close attention to your opponents hands and what they possible have already can determine if your should play or fold. |
