Omaha 8 or Better Tip One – Play to Scoop There is a big difference between scooping a pot and halving a pot. If you don't have a decent shot at the high hand, check/folding your low is a better option if you thank you are going to get "quartered". You could actually "win" and by being quartered, lose money. Omaha 8 or Better Tip Two – Any Two Cards In Omaha 8 or better you have to use two cards from your hand plus 3 community cards to make your hand. These two cards do not need to be the same. You can use two cards for the high and two different cards for the low or any other combination. For Ex. You hold AA23 and the final board is AA467. You can play you AA for quad Aces for the high hand and 23 for A2346 for the low hand. Omaha 8 or Better Tip Three – Don't Over Value It is important not to over value low starting hands such as A2 or A3. Though these are the best possible starting low hands there are also the mostly likely played. Most Omaha 8 or Better hands are better slow played. It is very hard to run off players, especially with a low possibility. Sometimes there is no way to get out of the pot more than you put in if you are going to tie for the low hand. |
